How much does artificial turf cost in San Diego?

How much does artificial turf cost in San Diego?

Installed turf runs $11 to $18 per square foot for residential yards in 2026. A 500 sq ft backyard typically lands $5,500 to $9,000. Pet turf adds $2–$3/sq ft for the deeper drainage and zeolite infill. We give line-item quotes — demo, base, turf, infill, labor — so you can see exactly what you're paying for.

What does the price include?

Demo and grading, class-II base compacted to 95% density, premium turf with multi-tone blades and 12+ year UV warranty, bender board edges, glued seams, infill brushed in, and final cleanup. No surprise add-ons after the quote.

Are quote visits free?

Yes. Free in-home quotes anywhere in San Diego County. No deposit to schedule. We measure with a wheel, check drainage and access, and give you a written line-item price on the spot in most cases.

Do you handle the SoCal Water$mart rebate?

Yes. Most live-turf-to-artificial conversions in San Diego County qualify for $3–$4 per square foot. We walk you through the application — which has to be submitted before install — and supply the post-conversion documentation. Typical timeline application to rebate check: 3–5 months.

Pet turf, putting greens, and other special installs

How is pet turf different from standard turf?

Pet turf uses permeable backing (drains urine straight through), a deeper drainage layer, zeolite infill (chemically binds ammonia from urine), and tighter seam glue. Standard turf in a heavy-pet yard smells by August and fails in 5 years. Pet turf lasts 15+.

How much does a backyard putting green cost?

Starter greens (200 sq ft, single cup) start around $4,500 installed. Mid-size greens (350–500 sq ft, 2–3 cups, fringe ring) run $7,500 to $14,000. Custom greens with serious contour, multiple cups, and chip pads run $15,000 to $25,000+.

Can you install turf on a concrete patio?

Yes. Patio turf is glued to the existing surface with marine-grade polyurethane adhesive, with drainage holes punched in the backing where puddling could occur. $9–$14 per sq ft installed. One-day job on most patios under 500 sq ft.

Do you do rooftop turf?

Yes — for condo balconies and roof decks. We use lightweight systems (under 2 lbs/sq ft installed) on a low-profile drainage tile. Coordinate with the building manager on weight limits and access. Most balcony installs complete in a single day.

Will turf work in my yard?

Does artificial turf get hot in summer?

Yes — turf surface temps run 30–50°F over ambient on full-sun afternoons. Cool-running infills (zeolite, blue-tinted blends) and lighter-color turf grades help. For yards in full inland sun (Escondido, El Cajon in August), plan a shade source if pets or kids will use the yard midday.

How long does artificial turf last in San Diego?

Premium turf with proper install lasts 15 to 20 years. UV exposure is the main wear factor — coastal yards hit the high end, inland 12–15 years. The base lasts indefinitely; if turf eventually needs replacement, the existing base typically still works.

What about HOAs?

California law (AB-1572) prohibits HOAs from blocking residential artificial turf. Most HOAs still want a spec sheet submitted for review. We provide approved spec sheets for most major SD County HOAs and help with the architectural review submission.

Can turf be installed on a slope?

Yes. We grade for drainage, sometimes add a perforated drain line tied into existing yard drainage, and use bender board edges to hold the install. Slopes don't change the turf — they change the base prep and drainage plan.

Maintenance and repair

What maintenance does artificial turf need?

Pick up debris and pet waste daily. Hose-rinse weekly in summer (monthly the rest of the year). Brush blades against the grain monthly. Pet yards: quarterly enzyme treatment. Once-a-year professional power-brush optional but extends life.

My pet turf smells. What now?

Usually one of three things: standard infill (silica) instead of zeolite, drainage failure under the base, or saturated infill on an older install. We can refresh infill ($400–$800 for a 500 sq ft yard) or inspect the base. Quarterly enzyme treatment prevents recurrence.

What if a seam lifts or the turf gets damaged?

Reseams and patches are routine. We bring color-matched turf when possible (or use leftover roll from your install). BBQ burns, pet damage, lifted edges — most repairs are same-week scheduling and start at $250.

Working with us

How fast can you start an install?

Same-week scheduling on most yards under 1,500 sq ft. Quote visits typically within 2–3 business days. Larger projects (1,500+ sq ft, custom putting greens) book 2–4 weeks out in spring and fall peak.

How long does the install take?

1–3 days for most residential yards under 2,000 sq ft. Patio installs and rooftop balconies often finish in a single day. Custom putting greens with serious contour can take a full week. We confirm the schedule before booking and clean up daily.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes — California CSLB Class C-27 Landscaping Contractor, fully insured, with $2M general liability. Certificates of insurance available on request for HOAs and commercial clients.
